3 Things To Avoid After A Painful Breakup

Breakups are one of the toughest things you will have to deal with in your life.

It’s not easy when a relationship ends with someone you love for whatever reason. There is always going to be a lot of hurt and pain. It can be tough trying to move on from the relationship after a painful breakup

However, moving on is exactly what you should do but there are many things people do that simply aren’t productive for moving on from a relationship.

Let’s look at some of them.

  1. Trying to remain friends – This is one that is very common. The only reason many couples suggest this is because they feel like it’s not completely cutting the chord to the relationship. Problem is that when you are still seeing your ex and spending time with them often you’ll never be able to completely cut that tie that will allow you to move on with your life.

  2. Get rid of any constant reminders – If you were living together or you have kids together then it’s going to make moving on even more difficult. Last thing you need is constant reminders around the home such as photo’s or other things that remind you of them. Also, either delete or block them on Facebook, reminders of your ex wherever they may be won’t help you move on from your ex.

  3. Resorting to alcohol or drugs – Using alcohol or drugs is nothing but an attempt to try and mask the pain you feel. This will just make you feel worse in the long term because by doing this you are not allowing yourself to naturally deal with the grieving process.

There are various other things to avoid after a painful break up but these three are some of the most common. Most important thing is to surround yourself with people that care and to not rush the grieving process. It’s not going to be easy but giving yourself time to heal is the healthiest way to deal with this.
