Is London the Perfect City for Matchmaking?

London has long been one of the world's premier cities for personal matchmaking, having been the first in 1705 when the world’s very first ‘Dating Agency’ opened its doors. Known as a matrimonial agency in those days, London led the rest of the world in terms of being first more than 3 centuries ago, and I am sure would still like to think it is still comfortably ahead of the rest of the world today.

In the UK, almost 85% of Matchmaking takes place in London, you only have to complete a search on Google to see the significant presence London has. Very well-established companies such as The County Register have been around since the early 1980s, so more than half a lifetime ago, but blend in with other more recently established companies like Ultimate Attraction, and more recently others that sprung up during the COVID pandemic and subsequently.

What is consistent in London is costs, with London-based companies seeming to have the ability to command higher prices. Tens of thousands of pounds would be the average for a personal matchmaking service in the capital, but at the upper end £20,000 to £30,000 are fairly commonplace, and with some charging up to £100,000.   • Is VAT included in the price quoted?
  • Are there any extra payments due?
  • How many potential partners do they have on their database?
  • How flexible is your contract?
  • Do you have access to a named matchmaker?
  • Can you visit the office and meet them?
